Patricia K. (Burgert) Yager 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Community Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., on October 10th at Kinsley Mortuary.
A private family burial was held at Leavenworth National Cemetery for both Tom and Pat, with military honors for Tom.
Pat was born to George F. and Stella (Bundy) Burgert at Hiawatha, KS, on July 8, 1930. She attended Elementary school at Hamlin Kansas and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1944.
Pat met the love of her life Tom at a VFW dance. They were married at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville, KS, on August 17, 1951. Together, they celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Pat worked various occupations. After graduation, she worked at E.W. McGrade Manufacturing Co. during the war, winding coils for radios. Later after getting married, she worked at Kramer Nursing Home, Mary Marshall Manor, and in the lunchroom at Marysville schools.
She belonged to various groups, including being a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Union Pacific Oldtimers Club in which she served as President in 1980. She was also a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Pat volunteered with the crafts at Camp Quality in Missouri a camp for kids with cancer.
Pat was the best Mother anyone could hope for. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren immensely. She loved adventure and jumped at the chance to do something fun and daring. She loved painting, designing and making pine needle baskets, fishing, and playing bingo.
Pat and Tom moved to St. James City, Florida in 1985 after Tom retired. They spent many happy years together there. They worked as a team on their charter fishing business, named after Pat, called “Patty K Charters”, which they operated for 16 years. It was a perfect fit for both of them. Tom did the fishing, and Pat took care of freezing and packing the fish. They enjoyed taking many folks from Marysville and the surrounding area for fishing trips in the Gulf, along with side adventures of shelling and corralling sand crab. Pat always was in on the adventures and afterward cleaned the shells and cooked them a delicious seafood meal.
Once they were no longer able to physically do their fishing business they moved back to Marysville and in the last few years have lived at Country Living.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Tom in 2022; parents; brothers, Larry Burgert and Jim Burgert; sisters, Virginia Woods and Valeta Callahan; daughter-in-law, Sunyi Yager; and son-in-law John Otero.
Pat is survived by her children; Thomas M. Yager, Liberty, MO., Robert (Mary) Yager, Gary (Cindy) Yager, Steve (Cathy) Yager, all of Marysville, and Karen Otero, Denver, CO.; sisters, Annalee Gilbert (Gary), Binghamton, NY, and Judy Gilliland, Hiawatha; grandchildren, Susan (Mikhail) Velasco, Jon Yager, Chantil (Clint) Miller, Austin (Dana) Gabrielson, Crystal Ketzlick, Ryan (Courtney) Yager, Patti (Ira) Stone, Mindy (Will) Whiting, Brian (Riti) Yager, Becky (Dustin) Heuer, and Brian (Ashley) Otero; and 18 great-grandchildren.
