Raymond F. Wetter, 84, Hanover, died Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Hanover Hospital, Hanover, Kan. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 14 at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 15 at St. John's Catholic Church.  Father Joseph Kieffer officiated.  Janet Fritschi was the organist.  Music included “Amazing Grace”, “Be Not Afraid”, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagles Wings”. The pallbearers were Bill Wetter, Steve Wetter, Ron Wetter, Donald Wetter, Randy Lindquist and Richard Inman. The honorary pallbearers were Shawn Wetter, Matthew Roberts, Chris Roberts, Christian Wetter and Daniel Flower. Burial was in the church cemetery. Raymond Francis Wetter was born on the family farm July 3, 1934, to Joseph and Victoria (Smetana) Wetter. Ray served in the U.S. Army, four years. After returning home, he started working for Bruna Implement then a short time at the Hanover High School as a janitor. He later retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. On December 30, 1961, Ray was united in marriage to Verena Hidy at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hanover. They were blessed with five children, Bill, Steve, Theresa, Ron and Donald. Ray was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Hanover American Legion, sixty-five years, served on the Hanover City Council, on the board of the Kloppenberg Center, member of Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer fireman for the Hanover Fire Department. Ray enjoyed playing cards downtown with the guys, country cruising and photography. He never met a stranger in any town he visited. Survivors include children, Bill (Gail) Wetter, Manhattan, Steve (Lisa) Wetter, Concordia, Theresa (Randy) Lindquist, Hanover, Ron (Stacy) Wetter, Hanover, Donald (Annie) Wetter, Lincoln, Neb; grandchildren, Shawn, Victoria (Dan) Flower, Matthew, Christopher, Christian, Hanna and Michaela; and great grandchildren, Paityn, Jonathan and Maddilynn; brother, Lloyd Wetter, Hanover; and sisters, Irene Welch, Calif. and Barb Cheney, Kansas City. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of forty-nine years, Verena; brother, Joe Wetter; and sisters, Marie Doebele, Gertrude Kramer and Dorothy Bruna. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary, Hanover.
