Regina "Jeannie" Frances Nordhus, 81, formerly of Marysville, KS died October 15, 2021 at her home in Shawnee, KS. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Marysville, KS. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Marysville, KS. Burial will be at St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery in Marysville. Jeannie was born on January 15, 1940 in Lillis, KS. One of nine children to her parents, Leo and Marie Keating who raised their family on a dairy farm near Beattie, KS. She graduated with the Class of 1958 at Beattie High School and went on to complete her nursing degree at Marymount College in Salina. After graduating in 1961 she worked as a registered nurse at the Marysville hospital and later the school nurse for USD 364. She also taught Lamaze childbirth classes for many years and that brought her close to scores of young families in the Marysville community during the 80’s and 90’s. As her own children headed off to college Jeannie opened Reflections, a gift shop, framing shop and Hallmark Gold Crown store on Broadway. She sold it in 1992 and the store still operates today in downtown Marysville. Jeannie married Jerry Nordhus on February 3, 1962 at St. Malachy’s in Beattie, KS and together they raised a family on their farm east of Marysville. They had four children, Catherine, Gerald Jr., Matthew, and Philip. Gerald Jr. died as an infant. Jeannie’s family has grown to include seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jeannie was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers. The abundant produce of her garden resulted in a rather impressive canning operation each summer. Sewing and quilting were other favorite hobbies and each of her grandchildren treasures their unique hand-made blanket to remind them of Grandma. Other fond reminders include the numerous pieces of antique furniture and parlor stoves she refinished over the past fifty years. Jeannie is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter Cathy (Paul) Oehm, Manhattan, KS; son Matt (Kathy) Nordhus, Mission Hills, KS; and son Phil (Mary) Nordhus, Johnston, IA. Grandchildren Erin (Josh) Weatherhead, Brian Oehm, Brandon Oehm, Sam Nordhus, Elizabeth Nordhus, Christopher (Suzy) Nordhus and Andy Nordhus. There are two great-grandchildren, Anika and Weston, children of Chris and Suzy. Regina is also survived by three siblings, Pat Micheletti, Mick Keating, and Rose Marie Keating. She has forty-two nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Marie Keating, two brothers Louis Keating and Joe Keating, and three sisters Mary Ellen Sinclair, Ann Vogel, and Rita Samuelson.
