Richard E. Claeys, 70, of Marysville, Kan., died Monday, December 17, 2018 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation is Thursday, December 20, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 21 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Richard was born at Marysville on July 4, 1948 to Gustoff and Bernice (Benda) Claeys. In 1966, he graduated from Marysville High School and served in the U.S. Army until fall of 1966. When he was honorably discharged, he returned to the family farm. Richard was a lifelong farmer and stockman. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Holle on November 17, 1973. Richard liked reading westerns and watching western movies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and especially spending time with family and his grandchildren. Richard was handy as a mechanic and could fix about anything. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Susan; and sister-in-law, Tammy Claeys. Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Matthew (Jamie) Claeys, Marysville, Gina (Christopher) Sims, Louisburg, Michael Claeys, Marysville, and Christopher Claeys, Marysville; sisters, Connie (Francis) Vering, Marysville, and Dolores (Paul) Jueneman, Washington; brothers, David Claeys, Oketo, Gary Claeys, Marysville, and Kenny Claeys, Marysville; sister-in-law, Judy Jo Claeys, Marysville; and eight grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
