Richard Lee Schotte, 77, Bremen died Monday, August 31, 2020 at his home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., Wednesday, September 2 at the Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, September 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Hermansberg), Bremen. Rev. Aaron T. Fenker, Sr., and Rev. Justin Panzer will officiate. Kathy Pralle will play the organ while the congregation sings “I’m But a Stranger Here”, “Listen, God is Calling”, “God’s Own Child” and “Abide with Me”. The family requests face masks at both the visitation and funeral service. The pallbearers will be Shane Rengstorf, Cody Rengstorf, Kolton Schotte, Kyle Schotte, Logan Waggy, Jason Schotte and Mark Beikmann. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Rich was born January 1, 1943 at Odell, NE, the son of William and Sophie (Klaus) Schotte. He was baptized, confirmed, and went to school at Immanuel Lutheran of Bremen. In 1961, he graduated from Marysville High School and then joined the National Guard. He was called up to serve during the Vietnam War. On May 14, 1966, Rich was united in marriage to Ruth Beikmann at Immanuel Lutheran, Linn. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage. They farmed in the Bremen area for sixty years. Rich served his Lord on many church and school committees, he was a life-long choir member, and served on the LCMS Kansas District Board for many years. He served as president for the 150th Anniversary of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rich also served on the Herkimer Township Board and was a supervisor on the Marshall County Conservation District for over thirty years. He helped form and was the president of Horseshoe Creek Watershed District. Rich had a very generous and caring heart. He loved baseball and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Margaret; sons, Timothy Schotte and William “Bill” Schotte; and grandson, Kayne. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughter, Amy (Todd) Rengstorf; son, Kevin (Susan) Schotte, all of Bremen; daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Joe) Mayhew and grandson, Grayson, Odell, NE; brother, Don (Lucy) Schotte, Bremen; sisters, Lois (Delwin) Bott, Palmer and Jan (Kenny) Heuer, Bremen; and grandchildren, Shane (Karissa) Rengstorf, Riley, KS, Ashley (Logan) Waggy, Evansville, IN, Cody (Taylor) Rengstorf, Hanover, Kolton and Kyle Schotte, both of Bremen; great grandchildren, Brynlee and Jase Rengstorf and Kennedy and Layne Waggy. No one he met remained a stranger, and Rich was never afraid to share his faith. He will be missed by many family and friends.
