Robert Hugh Shipman, 92, died peacefully at the home of his family in rural Overland Park on Friday, July 20, 2018. Bob was born December 29, 1925 on a farm near Diller Nebraska to Frank A. & Anna G. Shipman. They moved to Hebron, Nebraska when he was 2 years old. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and graduated from Hebron High School in 1943. He loved serving Mass and playing football and basketball. During WWII, Bob served as a sergeant in the US Army Air Corp. While stationed in Madison Wisconsin, he met his wife, Josephine (JoAnn) Pfahler. JoAnn and Bob were married on Sept. 4, 1946. They had two sons,Rob & Mark, who were both raised in Marysville. Bob purchased a dry cleaning business in Marysville in 1952. He and JoAnn operated the business for 25 years. He then became an insurance agent with The Prudential. He retired in 1988. Bob was active in his community. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years serving as president during the Pony Express Centennial. He was an American Legion member since 1952. Even after retirement Bob remained active in Marysville, serving on the City Council for 24 years. Bob was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. He served as an extra-ordinary minister & lector for many years. Bob was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1777. He was given the distinction of being an honorary life member. Bob was a Grand Knight & a faithful Navigator of the 4th degree. He held the position of district deputy. He will be remembered as a man who loved God, family and Marysville. Bob was proceeded in death by his wife JoAnn, son Mark, parents Frank & Anna, brothers Albert and Francis, sister Evelyn & special friend Shirley Little. Survivors include his son Robert H. Shipman, Jr. (Kathryn) of rural Overland Park, KS; and daughter-in-law Joyce Shipman of Kansas City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. Visitation was at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville on Tuesday, July 24 between 11a.m. and 5p.m. Family was present to receive friends between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Rosary was said at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. Mass of Christian burial was at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville on Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. Musicians were Bob Welch and Paula Landoll-Smith. Music was "Be Not Afraid," "Amazing Grace," "The Lord's Prayer," "Ave Maria" and "How Great Thou Art."
