Robert “Bob” Griswold, 86, Marysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Bryan West Medical Plaza in Lincoln, NE. Visitation was Sunday, August 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. The family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Marysville. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Bob was born July 23, 1936 to Daniel (Fred) and Charlotte (Lottie) (Kloxin) Griswold in Marysville. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1954. Shortly thereafter, he entered the U.S. Navy and worked as a machinist mate on the USS Taluga (AO-62). The ship, a refueler for combat ships was commissioned in the Pacific Ocean Theatre of Operations. During shore duty, Bob and Willa lived in Washington, Oregon and California. Bob received his honorable discharge in 1958. On August 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Willa Behrends at the Evangelical United Church of Christ. They were blessed with three children, Robin, Randy and Laurie. Bob was a lifetime member of the E.U.C.C. where he was baptized, confirmed, married and served on the church council and as council president. After returning home after his military service Bob worked for Haas Auto, Montgomery Wards and served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Bob was employed at Tension Envelope for 32 years, 14-1/2 years as the Production Manager, retiring in 2001. Bob and Willa were in partnership with other couples, that owned and operated the A & G Burger Bar and the Fiesta La Grande restaurants in Marysville. After retiring Bob delivered cabinets for Koch & Company, Seneca KS and worked for Habitat repairing small appliances. Bob enjoyed playing golf, restoring old golf clubs and several old chevy pick-ups. But he was most passionate about attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities, especially sporting events. Bob and Willa were members of The Wandering Wheels Motorcycle Club, traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. They also enjoyed taking several trips to Ireland, Hawaii, the Bahamas and other destinations. Bob and Willa always enjoyed dancing especially the “Jitterbug” to Big Band Music. Bob was a member of the American Legion and served in the color guard for many veteran’s funerals. Bob has always been very proud of his service to the military and loved his country. He dutifully attended many local Veteran’s Day Programs and Memorial Day Veteran’s Services wearing his Navy uniform. Bob especially enjoyed his trip to Washington D.C. with his son, on the Kansas Honor Flight in 2016. Bob was a member of the Kansas Free Masons Marysville Lodge No. 91. Bob was always there for his wife and children and put family first; he had a big heart and helped those in need. He was also known for his quick wit and sense of humor. Preceding him in death were his parents; his father-in-law William and mother-in-law, Mary Behrends, sister, Evelyn Richardson,brother-in-law, Warren Richardson, sister-in-law Delores Griswold and brother-in-law Richard Behrends. Survivors include his wife, Willa; children, Robin (Frank) Wiegert, Brighton, CO, Randy (Donna) Griswold and Laurie (Leo Jr.) Cudney, all of Marysville; a brother, Charlie Griswold, Marysville; sister, Laura (Bob) Loaney, Cranberry Township, PA; brother-in-law, Lynn Behrends and sister-in-law, Marilyn Behrends, Forsythe, MO; grandchildren, Mike (Christina) Wiegert, Fort Lupton, CO, Derek (Sunny) Griswold, Emporia, KS, Marc (Chelsea) Wiegert, Thornton, CO, Leah (Andrew) Whelan, Wichita, KS, Jennifer (Joe) Curtis, Thornton, CO, Ashley Griswold, Overland Park, KS, Chloe (Reid) Thornburg, Dallas, TX, Claire (Eric) Renyer, Sabetha, KS; sixteen great grandchildren and one expected in February. Bob was well-known in the community and will be greatly missed by all. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
