Robert Young

Robert “Bob” L. Young, 91, of Marysville, Kan., died February 2, 2019 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was Friday, February 8, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.  The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 9, at the United Methodist Church in Marysville.  Rev. Dale Lewis officiated.  Deb Landoll was organist.  Music selections were "The Old Rugged Cross," "Hymn of Promise", sang by Rev. Dale and Angie Lewis, "Amazing Grace" and "Waltz Across Texas." The pallbearers were Nolan Schramm, Matthew Young, Damon Young, Sarah Doyle, Travis Meyer, and Richie Mick. Burial was in the Oketo Cemetery. Bob was born September 4, 1927 at Marietta, Kan., to Ernest and Clara (Adams) Young.  He lived in Marietta, helping at his dad’s general store and attending school in Oketo.  In 1945, he graduated from Oketo High School. On May 17, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Mary Darleen Haner at the United Methodist Church in Marysville.  They farmed in the Marietta and Oketo area, until retiring and moving to Marysville in 1991. Bob was a 4-H Leader and drove a school bus.  He volunteered with the Oketo Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for many years.  He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antiques. He was a member of the Marysville Moose Club, where he held many offices, and also the Masonic Lodge in Oketo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darleen; four sisters, Helen Schneider, Ruth Rohmeyer, Marilyn Brooks and Bertha Hellmer; and a grandson, Jeffrey Young. Survivors include his children, Patricia (Jim) Schramm, Marysville, Michael (Jocelyn) Young, Oketo, Connie (Dan) Doyle, Beatrice, Neb., and Todd (Marcie) Young, Oketo; brothers-in-law, Gerald Hellmer, Oketo, and Galen (Anne) Haner, Portland, Ore.; sister-in-law, Darlene Haner, Marysville; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one, great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the Oketo United Methodist Church or Meadowlark Hospice.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
