Velda "Val" B. Overwald, 85, of Hanover, Kan., died March 1, 2019 at the Hanover Hospital. Visitation is Monday, March 4, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, at St. John's Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer will officiate. The musicians will be Janet Fritschi and Kelsey Goodwin. Music will include “Amazing Grace”, “Peace is Flowing Like a River”, “How Great Thou Art”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Strife is O’er”. The pallbearers will be Tim Koss, Ron Burnett, John Burnett, Mike Burnett, Dennis Burnett, Steve Burnett, Bobby Goodwin and Shawn Linenberger. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Velda was born August 13, 1933, near Hanover, Kan., to Anthony and Wavy (Turk) Overwald. She suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis her entire life but that did not stop her. She was proud of being a lifelong farmer. She loved bowling before her arthritis got too bad. Velda enjoyed rides around the farm on her four-wheeler with her little dog, Rusty. Velda enjoyed growing giant red cockscomb flowers and giving them to her favorite people. In later years after church, she would go to the Wildcat and sit and talk with whomever came in. She was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Keith Burnett; sisters, Twila Overwald and Wilma Jandera; brother, Elmer Overwald; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Jandera and Frank Linenberger; and a niece and nephew. Survivors include her sister, Regina Linenberger, Washington, Kan.; and a niece and nephew. A memorial fund has been established to St. John's Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
