Verda E. Drinkgern, 89, of Marysville, KS, passed away on July 15, 2023 at Hanover Long Term Care. Visitation was Thursday, July 20, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville, and the family received friends from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Philip Miller officiated. The musicians were Grace Miller and Wayne Kruse. Music included "Lift High the Cross", "Great is thy Faithfulness" and "Let there be Peace on Earth." The pallbearers were Dennis Kos, Allen Kos, David Kos, Darryl Kos, Steve Gaydusek, Mike Gaydusek, Pat Gaydusek, Rick Wecker and Randy Wecker. The honorary pallbearers were Sue Rowland, Jeannie Hogan, Lora Stohs, Lennis Holle, Janice Holle, Tim Ackerman and Todd Ackerman. Burial was in Immanuel (Hermansberg) Lutheran Cemetery, north of Bremen. Verda was born on February 23, 1934 in Marysville, daughter of Edward and Martha (Rettke) Kos. She was baptized on March 11, 1934 and confirmed in 1948. Verda attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, and in 1952, graduated from Marysville High School. On September 16, 1960, she married Milford W. Drinkgern at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, KS. In her early years, she worked at Marysville Mutual Insurance. Later, Verda and her husband owned and operated United Insurance Service in Marysville from 1964 to 2010. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as feeding her birds, squirrels, raccoons, opossums and watching hummingbirds, as well as enjoying baby calves and all animals. Verda also enjoyed crosses, angels and flowers, picking out walnuts and making scrubbies. Survivors include her son, Scott (Sandy) Drinkgern, Bremen, KS; daughter, Brenda (Steve) Albin, Lincoln, NE; grandson, Ryan (Donna) Drinkgern, Bremen, KS; step grandchildren, Julie (Gene) Doebele, Hanover, KS; Jenny (Cody) Sump, Randolph, KS; Joni (Dean) Koch, Axtell, KS; and Jana (Brandon) Gorr, Oregon; fourteen great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Rosco. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milford, on November 17, 2014; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Fisher Drinkgern; brothers, Everett Kos, Floyd Kos and J.D. Kos; sisters, Alice Gaydusek and Shirley Crist; and her faithful dog, Joey. The family has established a memorial fund for contributions, which may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
