Verda M. Svoboda, 84, of Marysville, Kan., died August 17, 2018.Visitation will be Tuesday, August 21 from noon to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 22 at Marysville Christian Fellowship. Rev. Brad Wicks will officiate. Music will include “Amazing Grace” (My Chains are Gone), “Save a Place for Me” and “I Will Rise”.The pallbearers will be Don Cohorst, Brian Spellmeier, Ron McHugh, Fred Hoffman, Loren Wassenberg, Darrin Svoboda and Steven Armantrout.Burial will be in the Pecenka Cemetery near Bremen, Kan.Verda was born May 17, 1934 at Marysville to Gustave and Julia (Lutjemeier) Spellmeier. She graduated from Marysville High School.For over 20 years, she worked at Community Memorial Hospital in housekeeping. She enjoyed walking and camping. Verda read bible devotions, taught Sunday school and did volunteer work at the hospital and nursing homes. She helped with funeral dinners and babysat. She lived in Blue Rapids and Marysville most of her life and was a member of the Wandering Wheels Motorcycle Club.She was married to Allan Svoboda. He preceded her in death in 1983. Others preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Chet Spellmeier and Robert Spellmeier; and sister, Norma Droge.Survivors include children, Diane (Mike) Boss, Marysville, and Rick Svoboda, Marysville; brother, Clarence Spellmeier, Home; and grandson, Jason.A memorial fund has been established to Freedom Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
