Verla D. Luckeroth, 92, of Marysville, Kan., died October 26, 2018 at Cambridge Place in Marysville.A funeral discourse will be given at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30 at the Marysville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.Verla was born December 17, 1925 in Pottawatomie County, Kan., to Max W. and Bertha Josephine (Freeby) Smith. The family moved to Beattie, Kan., where she attended grade school and graduated as valedictorian from Beattie High School. In 1943, she moved to Marysville where she spent the rest of her life raising her family and working.In 1945, she married Joseph F. Luckeroth. Together they raised six children.Verla and Joe owned the Dairy Bar in Marysville for many years. She also worked as a secretary at the City Sewing Machine Company and operated her cleaning business for many years before retiring.She was a self-sacrificing mother and grandmother. Verla loved poetry, music and was very artistic. She was a long-time active member of the Marysville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some of her favorite Bible scriptures were Psalm 37:29, Matthew 6:9,10, Acts 7:31, and Revelation 21:3,4.Verla was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia Luckeroth; son, Michael Luckeroth; siblings, Rodney R. Smith, Frank L. Smith, Max B. Smith, Shirley Hardman, Phyllis Jones, and Delores Brasher; and one grandson, Jon Mills.Survivors include her children, Bill Luckeroth, Kansas City, Mo., Janice Knutson, Reno, Nev., Joe A. Luckeroth, Tucson, Ariz., and Suzette Jacobs, Armonk, NY; sisters, Judie Herrick, Topeka, Kan., and Betty Glick, Kennewick, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.A memorial fund has been established to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses.
