William R. Boese, Jr.

William "Rick" Boese, Jr., 72, Marysville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 31 at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Pastor Brad Wicks will officiate. A graveside service and burial will be later in Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, KS. Rick was born January 1, 1949 in Gary, IN to William R. and Delores (Simons) Boese, Sr. Rick moved to Sterling to attend college and fell in love with the rural lifestyle and stayed in the Sterling area after graduating college. He graduated Sterling College and Boulder School of Banking. On August 17, 1974, he married Elaine Butts in Sterling. He started his banking career at Sterling National Bank, then Admire Bank and Trust in Emporia before moving to Osborne, where he became president of Farmers National Bank. He finished his banking career as CFO of United Bank and Trust in Marysville. Rick loved working with people and as he would put it “counting beans.” Rick enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and boating. He liked visiting with friends and laughing. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Steven Curtis-Boese; sister, Donna Fulton; and brother-in-law, Chuck Butts. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughter-in-law, Jessica Curtis-Boese, Marysville; granddaughter, Sora Curtis-Boese; niece, Kelly Drake, Germany; nephew, Kevin Kraus, Indiana; brother-in-law, Bob Fulton, Indiana; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Donna Butts, Washington; sister-in-law, Amanda Butts, Lyons; and mother-in-law, Joan Butts, Emporia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, whose goal is to eliminate Parkinson's disease.
