He was baptized into the Christian faith on December 20, 1931, and confirmed in the Christian faith on March 25, 1945, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bremen. Wilmer was inducted into the US Army on November 20, 1952, and after completing basic training he attended The Southeastern Signal School at Camp Gordon, Georgia from February to August 1953, completing the course of Field Radio Repairman. He was later assigned to the 510th Signal Company (Base Maintenance) at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. While at Fort Monmouth he completed schooling on television. During his active service he attained the rank of Corporal and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was released from active military service on November 19, 1954, and returned to farm with his father and brother, Harold and repaired televisions for neighbors on the side until the late 1960s. On May 5, 1957 Wilmer was united in marriage to Loretta D. Grefe. To this union were born three children, Nathan, Matthew, and Naomi. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage until Loretta’s passing in August 2016. Wilmer was a lifelong farmer and operated a dairy along with a beef cow/calf operation first with his brother and later on his own with his sons and daughter. For several years he served as a director for Bremen Farmers Union Co-op Association. After retiring from operating the dairy in 1999 he drove vans hauling railroad employees for Renzenberger, Inc., retiring in 2005. Along the way he made many friends and acquaintances. Wilmer was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as usher, school board elder, and church elder. In later years he helped to operate the public address system in the church and record the church services for those who could not attend. He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Men’s choir for many years. Wilmer particularly enjoyed playing Pinochle at birthday parties and other family and community gatherings and passed his love of the game on to his children. He also played Pitch but much preferred Pinochle. He was also very interested in family history and had memorized much of it. Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Loretta, two sisters in law, two brothers in law, a niece, and two nephews. Survivors include his brother Harold of Bremen, brother in law Delbert (Wanda) Grefe of Hanover, sons Nathan and Matthew of Bremen, and daughter Naomi of Anchorage, Alaska. A memorial fund has been established at Immanuel Lutheran Church and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary. Video of funeral for Wilmer Bargmann
