Francis J. Kloeker, 92, of Marysville, KS, died July 31, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 5, at St. Gregory's. Father Quentin Schmitz officiated. The musicians were Rosemary Forst and Paula Landoll-Smith. Music included “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, “The Lord is My Shepherd”, “O Lord, I Am Not Worthy”, “Song of Farewell” and “Hosea”. The pallbearers were Ted Nemec, Jared Nemec, Tyler Nemec, Curtis Stallbaumer, Brad Stallbaumer and Grant Smith. Burial was in the church cemetery. Francis was born north of Home, KS, on February 22, 1930, to August Henry and Mary Johanna (Dwerlkotte) Kloeker. His education began at McDonald School District. He transferred to St. Gregory’s Catholic School in the third grade and graduated from Marysville High School in 1947. After graduation, Francis worked the family farm with his dad. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, where he served as a cook. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He returned home and took over the family farm after his dad died in 1957. In addition to farming, Francis operated several restaurants including the Sundown in Home City, the Oketo Corner Inn, and the Green Top and Grandview Café’s in Marysville. He was a Knights of Columbus of the 4th Degree and served as Sacristan for many years at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Francis enjoyed woodworking, consequently, his basement was filled with tools and scrap lumber that was used for his many projects. He was also talented in the kitchen and could create a tasty meal of his own. His goulash was a family favorite. In his later years, Francis enjoyed his daily dinners and afternoon card playing at the Helvering Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Wes Nemec and Kenneth Stallbaumer. Survivors include his three sisters, Margaret Nemec, Marysville, Cecelia Stallbaumer, Oconto, NE, and Sister Eulalia Kloeker, Concordia; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic School. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
