Herbert J. Plegge, 94, of Marysville, KS, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Country Place Senior Living in Marysville. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, from noon to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Herb was born February 16, 1928, at Marysville to August and Minnie (Pronske) Plegge. In 1945, he graduated from Marysville High School and then began to work on the family farm. In 1951, Herb was drafted into the U.S. Army. On July 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Wilma Gleue at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Bremen, KS. After his service in the Korean War and following his honorable discharge, he and Wilma had two children, Jim and Jean. In 1958, they moved to the family farm. He and his brother, Arlo, ran a dairy farm until 1969, and then Herb and his family continued the dairy farm until 1973. In 1974, he began raising cattle and farmed with his brother, Ralph. He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ and American Legion. Herb enjoyed having coffee and playing pinochle with friends and family and watching college sports. Herb was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jim Plegge; and brothers, Walt Plegge, Ernie Plegge, Ralph Plegge and Arlo Plegge. Survivors include his daughter, Jean Plegge (Hugh Conover), Lawrence, KS; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Legion, Marysville, KS; Country Place Living, Marysville, KS; and Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
